The Triangle Region offers perfect conditions for a stronger defense
The Triangle Region has a tradition of supporting a strong defense. Therefore, the seven municipalities wish to enter into a dialogue with the government and the Parliament about how the Triangle Region can contribute to and participate in the implementation of the defense agreement.
The concluded framework agreement creates good conditions for continuous dialogue and concrete initiatives throughout the agreement period, as the agreement is specified in sub-agreements.
Denmark's national logistics center
The Triangle Region houses approx. 10% of the defense's 22,000 employees, and a number of military locations in Haderslev and Fredericia Municipality. Our area is Denmark's national logistics center with the NATO port in Esbjerg, a well-developed motorway network, international airport, commercial ports, and railway infrastructure, and over 1 million working people can commute to the Triangle Region within a maximum of 1 hour.
Education in the Triangle Region can strengthen the defense
The Triangle Region has several possible locations where various educations and knowledge centers can be linked to already existing military facilities. We suggest, for example:
- constable basic training and military logistics basic education
- aircraft mechanic education CAT. A, (duration 10-12 months)
- IT and cybersecurity educations in cooperation between the military and civilian sectors
- Center of Excellence in the cyber area
- Knowledge center for the use of data and information (Data analysis/BI).
Expansion of existing locations
From April 2024, the number of conscripts will increase from 4,700 to 7,500 annually. Therefore, the Triangle Region proposes that Ryes Barracks in Fredericia and Haderslev Barracks be expanded and modernized. The barracks also lack attractive housing/campus environments for defense personnel in training and up-to-date overnight and conference facilities.
Development of new and existing partnerships in the Triangle Region
The Triangle Region offers a number of opportunities to both strengthen the existing partnerships between the Defense and civil society and can simultaneously develop exciting new offers. This can, for example, happen through strategic collaborations with the business community to strengthen both the conscripts' and permanent staff's competencies - for example with programs where training alternates between private companies and the Defense.
Supporting investments in infrastructure
The Triangle Region already has strong infrastructure, but we propose new investments in infrastructure that support the ambitions of the defense agreement. This could be the initiation of the Hærvejsmotorvejen (Army Road Motorway) from Billund to Haderslev to support Host Nation Support (HNS) or a new and modern parallel connection for both cars and trains over the Little Belt to strengthen the east-west connection.
Climate and preparedness
Preparedness plays a significant role in solving important societal tasks, e.g., climate-related events. Therefore, the municipalities in the Triangle Region are ready to cooperate with the Defense to strengthen the civilian preparedness alongside the other efforts in the defense area.
