Common infrastructure interests in the Triangle Region
It is crucial for all of Denmark that the infrastructure in and around the Triangle Region can continue to ensure sustainable growth, mobility, and both regional and national cohesion. The infrastructure must secure extensive local and regional commuting, companies' goods transport and export, as well as national and international passenger transport. At the same time, the infrastructure must ensure that the Triangle Region is perhaps the best place to live in Denmark through active noise reduction, consideration for nature, high traffic safety, and good conditions for local traffic.
The municipalities of the Triangle Region agree that the five most important infrastructure priorities are:
- New Central Jutland Motorway
- Public transport and S-train in the Triangle Region
- Expansion of the motorway all around Kolding
- Coherence in the East Jutland urban belt
- Future-proof connection over the Little Belt
New Central Jutland Motorway
There is a need to strengthen the north-south connection in Jutland – and to connect Billund Airport to the motorway network. The so-called New Central Jutland Motorway (formerly called the Hærvejsmotorvejen) should therefore be promoted, initially from Billund to Haderslev and in the longer term in its full length.
Public transport and S-train in the Triangle Region
The Triangle Region is a significant growth center, with many commuting in and out – and across – every day. Therefore, there is a need to strengthen the opportunities for efficient green commuting – which can both relieve the climate and the roads. A strong S-train-like offer with short travel times and frequent departures by road or rail should therefore be established.
In addition, there is a need to develop public transport throughout the Triangle Region to ensure greener and more coherent mobility.
Expansion of the motorway all around Kolding
It is crucial for both east-west and north-south traffic that there is sufficient capacity on the motorway around Kolding. Therefore, the motorway around Kolding should be expanded all the way down to Kolding South. The ongoing expansion of the motorway north/west of Kolding carries a risk that congestion and traffic jam problems will move further south. Not least because a new business area near exit 65A is expected to increase traffic volume by 10-15%.
Coherence in the East Jutland urban belt
Strong connections in the East Jutland urban belt are crucial for growth, mobility, and cohesion in the Triangle Region. With the expansion of the E45 to 6 lanes from Kolding to Aarhus, there is an even greater need to expand capacity over the Vejlefjord Bridge.
Future-proof connection over the Little Belt
The connection over the Little Belt is critically important for both national traffic and regional commuting. Traffic and congestion are growing faster on the New Little Belt Bridge than nationally, and the connection over the Little Belt is vital for Danish supply security. Therefore, there is a need to future-proof the connection over the Little Belt. This is being worked on within the framework of the Little Belt Committee.
