Green skills are in high demand
Green skills are demanded in over 12% of all job postings in the Triangle Region in 2025 – this is the largest share among metropolitan areas. This indicates that there is a strong focus on green transition in companies in the Triangle Region.
The demand for green skills has increased significantly over the last 10 years across metropolitan areas in Denmark, indicating a growing focus on green transition. However, in the past year, the demand for green skills has fallen in the Triangle Region as well as in most other metropolitan areas in Denmark. This may indicate a declining focus on green transition.
In 2025, green skills were more frequently demanded in the industry in the Triangle Region than in the industry in the rest of the country – here it was 1 out of 5 job postings that requested at least one green skill. The high demand for green skills in the industry in the Triangle Region is partly due to the fact that the utilities sector is large in the area, and green transition is extensively worked on here. The large utilities sector thus helps make the green labor market in the Triangle Region particularly large and the competition to attract green skills tough.
Other sectors that often demand green skills are the construction sector and agriculture, etc.
About green skills
The demand for green skills in job postings indicates the extent to which companies in the area focus on the green transition. It may be a matter of concrete and decisive needs for green skills, or it may be that companies want to show in the job posting that green transition is on the agenda in the company (employer branding). The data comes from HBS-Jobintel, which contains the majority of publicly available online job postings in Denmark from 2007 onwards combined with data from, among others, the CVR register. The database is produced by HBS Economics. Using statistical methods, among other things, the competence requirements for the position in job postings are uncovered and green skills are identified. Green skills are competences that contribute to reducing the human impact on climate and environment such as energy optimization, waste sorting, environmental protection, etc. Green job postings are postings with at least one green skill. It is noted that there may be structural differences across industries regarding the use of formal job postings (see e.g. Ballisager and Voxmeter (2019) Candidate Analysis 2019).
