Entrepreneurship on par with other metropolitan regions
In the Triangle Region, approximately 4.5 new companies were established per 1,000 inhabitants in the area in 2023. This is on par with most other metropolitan areas in Denmark but is surpassed by the Capital Region, which has the significantly highest establishment rate in Denmark. Thus, the inhabitants of the Triangle Region are about as good at establishing new companies as the inhabitants in the areas around Odense, Aarhus, and Aalborg.
Over the past 10 years, the establishment rate in the Triangle Region was at its highest in 2021. However, in the last two years, the trend of starting new companies has declined somewhat. A similar picture is seen in the other metropolitan areas.
The survival rate for new companies in the Triangle Region is on par with companies in the metropolitan areas around Aarhus, Odense, and Aalborg. In the Capital Region, there is a tendency for fewer new companies to survive after 3 and 5 years than in the other urban areas – however, this is offset by the very high establishment rate in the area.
About establishment and survival of companies
The development in the number of companies in the area says something about how dynamic the business sector is. Partly, how many new companies are established in the area, and how long the companies survive. Statistics Denmark reports the number of truly new and truly ceased companies. They correct, among other things, for restarted units; units that are new/ceased as a result of transferring workplaces to other firms; and units that are new as a result of receiving workplaces from other firms. Finally, units that cannot be considered truly active because they have too little activity are filtered out. The statistics thus provide a more accurate picture of how many truly new companies there are in the area than a count based solely on the creation of new CVR numbers.
