The Triangle Region now has 438,000 inhabitants

The population has grown continuously over the past 10 years in the Triangle Region. The same applies to other metropolitan areas in Denmark. At the beginning of 2026, there were over 438,000 inhabitants in the Triangle Region, which corresponds to over 7% of the Danish population. The population has increased by nearly 21,000 inhabitants since 2016, corresponding to an increase of just over 5%.

Population growth over the past 10 years has been clearly highest in the areas around the Capital Region and Aarhus (9-10%). In the Triangle Region as well as the Odense and Aalborg areas, the population has increased slightly less.

Net immigration drives population growth

In the past year, it has been immigration from abroad that has driven population growth in the Triangle Region - there were as many as 2,151 more people who immigrated to the Triangle Region than emigrated (net immigration). In-migration also contributed positively to population development (more moved into the Triangle Region from other municipalities than vice versa), though to a much lesser extent than immigration. On the other hand, there was a negative birth surplus (fewer were born than died).
